What Causes Acne Scars And How To Get Rid Of Them

Acne is a big issue especially for females as they appear without any prior warning and leave a lot of permanent scars. Irrespective of your abhorrence for it, acne occurs throughout the teenage years of most people and a lot of effort is required for removing these ugly looking marks and stopping them from reappearing.

Acne is the result of a reaction between bacteria and sebum released by the glands found in skin, giving rise to an infection. During the healing period of this infection, a fibrous protein called collagen is formed. When the collagen is in surplus, there is a protrusion and when its levels are below normal then it leads to tiny craters on the skin. Either of these eventualities can give rise to acne scars. Adolescents are typically more prone to acne infection as their hormones rise suddenly at the time of puberty causing more sebum release.

Among the common causes of acne infection are application of beauty products that are not appropriate for the kind of skin, taking contraceptive medication, consumption of medicinal drugs, and genetic reasons. A number of other reasons such as anxiety, improper eating habits, and even pollution can cause acne. However, contrary to common perception, there is no scientific link between spicy or fast food and acne.

Despite availability of numerous herbal cosmetics and creams for the treatment of acne available in the stores, it is better to consult a skin doctor if the infection increases or appears again and again. Abstaining from pressing the acne or jabbing it with any pointed object is a must to avoid aggravation of acne.

An increasing number of people are also resorting to cosmetic treatments to get rid of acne scars and to regain a spotless skin. Laser treatment and surgery are also being used increasingly for removing acne scars, in addition to many new treatments that have been developed by medical science. You should see a good dermatologist who would be able to determine your skin type and suggest an appropriate treatment.
