4 Ways To Keep Motivated In A Rough Job Market

Unemployment is rising well above 9% in the United States and it could go well beyond 10% as well. With the future looking bleak, gasoline prices rising, and unemployment on the rise as well, is there any hope for future jobs? On the contrary, if you're in a tough situation where you may be unemployed for a time, it is crucial to stay motivated so that you'll have every opportunity and are able to grab that next job offer when time permits. If you are having trouble staying focused or motivated in this tough job market and economy, though, there are four definite ways to keep the hope so that your future looks bright.

#1 - Network, Network, Network

Meeting people is the best way to get in the game. Submitting resumes online is great, but without a face to put with a name, you will be just a number to most employers. Going to job fairs, philanthropic events, joining local organizations and going to other networking events is a great way to meet potential employers and get your name out there. You may not know this, but your chances of getting hired somewhere significantly increase when you know the person who is doing the hiring. In addition, talking to people can open you up to a world of opportunities that you may not have known about before.

#2 - Be Positive

Even though the future may seem bleak, there are plenty of reasons to think positively in this tough economy. One of the best attitudes you can take with you is a positive one. Taking a positive approach and thinking to yourself that your next application may result in a hire or the next interview you go on may just be the job you were looking for is crucial to staying focused.

#3 - Get Your Resume Out There

If no one knows that you are looking for a job, no one will be able to hire you. So make sure that your resume is going out. Send it to every online job posting site that you can. Email it around to all of your contacts letting them know that you are currently seeking an employment opportunity in whatever field you are interested in. Make sure that family and friends know that you are looking for a job as well and give them a copy of your resume. Remember, more hands are better than just yours.

#4 - Remember That This Too Shall Pass

Finally, remember that nothing is forever and that this too shall pass. The recession will be over one day and everyone will be able to see the signs of that. Job loss is not permanent and your lack of a job will not be permanent either. You just have to keep looking and keep trying; eventually you will find something

All in all, these are some of the most important approaches and mindsets you can have in a tough job market where unemployment is rising. Realizing that the situation won't last, getting your resume out on the front lines, thinking positively about your situation, and connecting with others should help you stay motivated, focused, and in perspective!
