Are you angry from time to time? Every one does. Anger is a normal emotional response to various life stimuli and situations. But although everyone gets angry from time to time not every one has a real problem with excessive anger that affects their life.
Anger is an emotion, but like many emotions it can be overpowering and can get way out of control. And this happens to many people. But if your anger gets out of control it can be so damaging to so many different areas of your life.
And excess anger can lead to various sorts of unusual behavior. There's so many different ways that the excess anger can manifest itself in your life. Some obvious ones I'm sure you know, like shouting at people . But there are also some less obvious like sulleness, grumpiness and overt aggression to strangers, withdrawal, and short temperedness.
And it often doesn't stop there. It can lead to violence or threats of violence towards friends and family, even children. And when it gets to this stage something absolutely must be done about it.
And the effects of this on the life of the anger sufferer, (not to mention others), is serious. Their relationships usually break down and they can become withdrawn and lonely and resentful and feel like the whole world is down on them. And in serious cases life can spiral way out of control and there can be even more serious problems.
And it's not only the life of the anger sufferer that can be at risk, but the overall health as well. There is evidence to suggest that excessive anger can, over time, lead to all sorts of health problems including depression, digestive problems, heart problems, headaches, anxiety and some other related psychological problems, high blood pressure, stroke, skin problems, insomnia and more. Scary isn't it?
And it can be quite unpredictable when a serious anger attack occurs. It's often in response to a stressful life event and of course stressful life events happen to everyone, there's little you can do to avoid some stress and disappointment in your life. But most people get angry, settle down and carry on.
But even though you can't stop those frustrating and stressful events happening to you it is certainly possible to change how you react to them. The events will happen, but how you react is what creates the anger and frustration.
Your reaction is under your control. Now of course just understanding this doesn't mean that you can immediately change it. But you know that with the right anger management techniques you can change your response.
There are anger management techniques that work to allow you to change your reaction. They take some time to learn and different techniques work for different people. Some people may need professional treatment or counseling but others can make use of some simple anger management tips to help control their anger.
But the good news is that your life doesn't need to spiral down into broken relationships and loneliness. You need to recognize the problem and take the decision to do something about it, and learn some techniques. Then get started get your life back together.
