Have you ever really given a lot of thought to why you want to lose weight? Have you ever thought about why so many of your previous attempts to lose weight have failed, even though you thought you were motivated? Weight loss motivation is so important, but how do we keep it going? Let's look at a few ideas and help you keep that motivation going strong!

Getting Excited

Every time we start something new we go through a honeymoon period of excitement and high expectations. But sometimes those feelings and thoughts wear off. You're all excited about this new weight loss program you're going to follow, but then within a few weeks you're bored with it and are back to your old routines.

What happened to your motivation? You were so excited at first, but now that excitement has died. This kind of thing happens to people all the time. Your motivation goes away because the only thing that had you going was that initial motivation! You have to find a way to keep the weight loss motivation going longer than a few weeks.

Realistic Goals - A Key to Weight Loss MOtivation

A lot of people quit whatever program they are on because it didn't happen as quickly as they hoped. And honestly, a lot of times they had unrealistic expectations anyway! One thing you can do to keep the motivation going is make sure you are setting realistic explectations on what you can accomplish in a certain time period.

It's also important to have short term and long term goals. If all of your goals are based on the next month, what do you do after that? Also, if your goal is for the next year you probably won't be able to stay focused on it long enough to stay motivated.

Keep it Exciting by Mixing it Up

Variety is also a key to weight loss motivation. If you get bored with whatever program you're following you're likely to give up on it. Find a way to mix things up from time to time. This will help you stick with your overall goal of losing weight.

A lot of people overlook this weight loss tip. People will keep doing the things they enjoy more than the things that they feel that they have to do. If you can find a way to get some variety into both your workout and your diet you'll have more fun losing weight, and thus stick with it.

You'll be much more likely to stick with your plan of losing weight for the long run if you can mix things up and keep yourself motivated after the honeymoon period. Stick with it and have fun and you'll reach your goals!
