The Best Ways for Managing Your Study Workload

Let's face it; nobody enjoys having to sacrifice a night out at the movies, just so you can stay at home studying. It would be even worse if you had to miss your favourite band's only performance of the year. Having said that, you could of course join the millions of others who choose the fun things first and just put there studies off.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if you put something off until the next day, there'll simply be something else that crops up and you'll be putting it off again. Eventually, you find yourself in a position where the deadline is just around the corner, and there simply aren't enough hours left in order for you to complete your work.

Am I close to the truth? How many times have you found yourself in a similar situation? Don't worry though because at least it goes to show that you're doing what the vast majority of others do. Let's be honest with ourselves, nobody in their right mind would choose a boring bunch of work over having a great time. The only problem with putting things off is, as you get more and more behind, you'll find yourself becoming increasingly stressed.

Rather than leaving everything right until the last minute, maintaining a list and working through it accordingly is a far better solution. A list not only helps to ensure you don't forget anything, but it also allows you to work through tasks in order of priority. The benefit of following this method is that for the most part, you'll end up having more free time than you have currently. Also, because you're eliminating the cause for stress, you'll find you enjoy the good times even more as well.

Remember, it might be tempting to do the easy things first and save the hard and tedious until last, but the more effective way is just the opposite. Once you get the hard stuff done the rest is easy and will fly by and you can stick them anywhere and make it happen. Harder projects on the other hand actually require a commitment of a block of time so you can't just start and end at will.

Another big waster of time is cell-phones. They all have voice mail; you would be wise to use it when studying. You should treat your study time as 'do not disturb' time or you will find yourself spending a few moments on this call, an hour on that call and before you know it, you are back into the time crunch again.

There's an old adage which says you need to study smart, rather than study hard and this is particularly true in this case. As I've said already, the secret here is having a list and working strictly to it. While this applies to everyone, those who have to fit their studies in with keeping the house, raising kids, etc, will find a list to be extremely beneficial.

Of course, each person's situation is different to the next, so each person will need to make their own adjustments, and fine tune their lists until you discover what works best for you.
