Just as there are social conventions at a party, there are guidelines to texting.
Rule 1: Never text to dodge a real conversation
Some guys think texting is safer than giving a girl a real call. It makes sense, but do not fall in that category. When you get a phone number, the next thing to do is figure out when you can both meet again. You will find more success making plans over the phone with your voice than with letters and emoticons.
If you can't talk to your potential date over the phone, there is no way you could carry a conversation in one on one.
Rule 2: Do not seek responses for validation.
Examples of value seeking texts are "What's up?" or "What are you doing tonight?" These texts come off as needy, invoke no emotion in the woman you are contacting, and don't portray anything about your personality.

"Hi nerd! I'm sure you're operating at a level of 100% nerdiness today :) "
Rule 3: Avoid sending too many messages!
You've got a huge kindergarten crush on her, but don't show too much interest too fast or you will scare her off. Text one time and if she responds, do the same. However, if there is no response, wait for the next day before contacting her.
Try to place some space between text responses. Keep in mind, non-neediness means sexy because she will see you are in demand and have other romantic options.
If in doubt, follow her lead. If she texts instantly, do the same, but if she text after 15 minutes, then do the same.
